ICKE WARS? David Icke?

 - I felt like doing what David Icke fans do and add together film clips with Icke's audio, the star wars theme to it is kind of fun, and I made it kind of fun, if shorter than I could have done, I considered a long video, but who watches them!?

Skeptic group on facebook - first update/log

I have had some good interaction between skeptics and spirituals as of late, not least friends of the End Of Fear Project, as well as friends from youtube vlogging channels, who have helped add to the discussion, share topics, and broaden the group to over a hundred people.  Thus far, I have only had to kick out one person for posting unrelated material that was a shallow plug for her book, sadlythis is common enough to facebook, and I can only imagine other sites and communities suffer in much the same way.  Despite this minor problem, the group is doing well, and recently a guy with a hindu view of philosophy has been posting many things on brahman and the lotus, the important thing is to note how the beliefs do not work, not use insult, but say why meditation is not the key to perfect or ultimate knowledge, as he claimed a few times.  New Age is heavily influenced by these kinds of ideas, that 'We know nothing, now let me tell you what it means.', or 'knowing is a divine truth, so to not know the divine you must be out beyond knowledge.'  sadly, such thinking is accepted as valid by a kind of cultural relativism that exists in liberal society, this allows pseudo-science to rest next to science, even though one method of inquiry offers results, the other is incapable.

So, if your interested then visit the group, feel free to add content, comments, but keep it honest, I do not want to only allow vetted people to post, although if you are into preaching, then expect your argument to be owned!

The trouble with quotations is the way they can be misused?

[small sample from a draft of a book, this tiny snippet makes some sense even when removed from surrounding thoughts in the draft of my new book.]

The best examples of quotes are pseudo-scientists, who use selected scientific quotes, or those quotes from scientists, to support an unscientific series of opinions, the goal is often to fleece the converted. These shameless entities leach on to the desire for knowledge, trick the somewhat ill-informed, and make a business from a half-baked philosophy. In fact, the lowest blow is where a person clear has originated the deception, so rather than accepting a poor authority, they actually have gone through various statement of a respected historical figure to winkle out a few choice words, this can be to support or dismiss claims, as with the criticism of atheist authors, although this is often applied by amateurs, and on ether side of the debate.

In various debates, many of which are in video form online, a person wishing to misrepresent a position will select quotes, even those quoted by the person they quote, as happened in one instance of a debate between William Lane Craig and Sam Harris, Dr Craig used selected quotes that Harris had quoted from others, and were not his own position.  This kind of quotation is to misrepresent a persons work, and is the lowest form of debate, since a dishonest selection process is used to discredit the individual, in that case Sam Harris. I don't doubt that there are many atheists who would do the same to discredit their opposition in a debate, although if we are honest we should point out these errors in reasoning, regardless of who uses these methods.

Interventionism and Isolationism?

Interventionism has become a term thrown around for any nation that gets involved in any war, suggesting warmongering, even in cases of smaller conflicts.  Equally, non-interventionism is used by people to suggest that one avoids war in almost every case.

The terms themselves are styles more than acts, the intervention is by one who intervenes, thus any nation intervening is interventionist, and non-intervention is not doing as much, in the modern political environment such terms are made foggy, since most of us admit there are good and bad reasons for intervention, and in come cases to intervene is a must.

So in actuality, there are massively pro-war politicians, somewhat pro, somewhat against, and highly against even when we may be best of intervening in a disastrous period for a region, such as a civil war or to cast off a hazardous tyranny, or both.  These options are made overly simple, into a binary system of warmongering vs. peace-loving, or pro-democracy vs. isolationism.

The trouble is who you listen to, who you accept as an authority, and thus, which biases you then hold on to, is it Fox News, The Young Turks, or another News, or News-like service?
